Steinmeier therefore followed the request of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who asked to dissolve parliament after the Bundestag voted for a vote of no confidence in his government.
The President dissolved the 20th Bundestag and called early elections for February 23, 2025. Earlier, the leaders of the parliamentary factions agreed on this voting day.
