Bread prices may rise by 20% in Ukraine

Flour prices have increased by 50% in the past few months and continue to rise. Flour is about 40% of the cost of bread.

The bakers allow for the lack of bread. So soon the product may increase in price by 20% due to the increase in the cost of flour and other ingredients. Businessua reported this on Thursday, August 8.

According to the estimates of the President of the All-Ukrainian Association of Bakers and Director of Kyiv Bread company Yuriy Duchenko, bread prices will have to increase by 15-20%.

“If this does not happen, many bakeries may simply stop and the shortage of bread will begin in the country, a number of businesses will soon stop, some will switch to working in a shift,” he explained.

Duchenko added that if in April they bought flour at 10 thousand per ton, now it costs 15 thousand, and in November the price is expected to be 16-16.2 thousand.

“Flour prices have increased by 50% in the last few months and continue to increase. Flour in the cost of bread is about 40%. Other raw materials (sugar, sunflower oil, etc.) has increased in price by more than 20% since the beginning of the year Costs for electricity, logistics, packing materials and others,” said Duchenko in a commentary to the Ministry of Finance.

In the past, the Ministry of Health suggested that manufacturers gradually reduce the salt content in bakery products.

At the end of April, consumer price growth in Ukraine fell to 0.2% from 0.5% in March, 0.3% in February and 0.4% in January.
