China is a competitor and systematic opponent of the European Union, but at the same time it remains a major economic partner.
European countries have high dependence on China, and in some areas even more than dependence on Russian gas. On Monday, November 7, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell wrote this in his blog on the website of the European External Action Service.
Borrell explained that China plays a very important role in some supply chains, and “the reliance on China as part of a cleaner production strategy is now greater than the reliance on fossil fuels from Russia.”
Borrell said that China generates 80% of solar panels, 90% of the demand for rare earth metals and magnesium, used by EU countries.
“We need to work to reduce this overdependence, eliminate weaknesses and strengthen our stability. We will continue to work with our partners in China, especially through the G7,” he said.
According to him, China is a competitor and systematic opponent of the European Union, but at the same time remains the main economic partner.
Earlier, the European Union called on Russia to reconsider its decision to suspend its participation in the Ukrainian grain export deal.
