A small and completely destroyed settlement does not give Russian troops a reliable operational foothold.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) assessed the probable capture of Marinka in the Donetsk region as a limited tactical success by Russia, which does not mean any significant operational advance. This is stated in the ISW report.
Geolocation video footage from December 25 indicates that Russian troops have advanced in the northern part of Marinka. ISW estimates that they probably control most, if not all, of Marinka, although there is still visual confirmation of the complete capture of the city by Russian forces on 26 December.
As ISW noted, a small and completely destroyed settlement does not provide Russian troops with a reliable operational bridge from which to launch further offensive operations.
Marinka is located less than a kilometer from the front line, and Ukrainian troops have long fortified many of the surrounding settlements that Russian troops are also trying to capture.
ISW experts noted that the invaders have advanced about three kilometers deeper into Marinka since February 24, 2022, and there is no indication that their rate of advance towards the next populated areas identified as tactical that target would be much faster, given the level of casualties suffered by the Russians. forces during the capture of a small settlement.
We remind you that the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny said that the Ukrainian forces retreated from the ruins of the city of Maryinka and dug in the surrounding area.
As the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Alexey Danilov said, part of Marinka, Donetsk region, is still under the control of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, and therefore it is incorrect to talk about the alleged ‘y capture of the city, which the Russian talks about the conquerors.
