At the same time, the Chinese leader again warned against attempting to declare Taiwan’s independence from the PRC.
Chinese President Xi Jinping announced Taiwan’s inevitable “unification” with mainland China and vowed to firmly oppose any attempt to “separate” Taiwan from China. He said this in a speech at a symposium on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the birth of the founder of the People’s Republic of China, Mao Zedong, Xinhua reports.
“Achieving the complete reunification of China is an inevitable trend. It is the greatest national interest and what the people want,” Xi Jinping said.
The PRC leader noted the need to more carefully implement the policy of the ruling Chinese Communist Party to resolve the Taiwan issue and maintain the one China principle and the 1992 Consensus (when China and Taiwan recognized the unity of China – ed .).
In addition, Xi Jinping emphasized the need to build cooperation with Taiwan in all areas and called for promoting the peaceful development of relations between the mainland and the island.
At the same time, he again warned against attempts to declare Taiwan’s independence. “We will firmly prevent anyone who calls for Taiwan’s separation from China,” Xi Jinping stressed.
Let’s remember that Xi Jinping has previously said that China will not attack Taiwan in the next few years. Official Beijing said it was ready to create sufficient opportunities for peaceful reunification in Taiwan, but would not allow “separatist” activities aimed at the island’s independence.
