Biden promised new sanctions against Russia

Biden said the United States would never recognize Russia’s claim to sovereign territory in Ukraine.

US President Joe Biden has said the United States will never recognize Russia’s claim to Ukraine’s sovereign territory and will impose new sanctions on Moscow if it annexes new Ukrainian territories. This was reported by Reuters.

Speaking to Pacific Island leaders, Biden denounced pseudo-referendums in Ukraine’s temporarily seized territories as “total fraud,” and said the results were “made in Moscow.”

“The United States – I want to make it very clear – the United States will never, never, ever recognize Russia’s claims to the sovereign territory of Ukraine,” Biden said.

The US President also noted that “Russia’s attack with imperial ambitions on Ukraine is a flagrant violation of the UN Charter, the basic principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

Biden said the United States is working with allies on sanctions to be imposed after Russia annexes new territories in Ukraine.

Recall that the European Commission has already approved a new package of sanctions against the Russian Federation. This includes limiting the price of Russian oil.
