The confidential equipment will help the NRO provide critical information to government agencies and decision makers and monitor international issues.

An Electron rocket was launched from the Mahia Peninsula in New Zealand with a mission to bring equipment for U.S. national security today, July 13 at 9:30 p.m.

This was announced by Rocket Lab.

This is the first of two consecutive launches for the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office, a Pentagon-CIA inter-agency command line.

“The second launch is expected to take place in 10 days. Today’s NROL-162 mission will be launched from launch pad A, while the launch of the Antipodean Adventure (NROL-199) mission is scheduled from pad B no earlier than July 22, “the page noted.

The two missions carry equipment designed, manufactured and operated by the NRO in collaboration with the Australian Department of Defense, and photos from the right place at the right time can detect troop movements.

In 2022, a satellite was launched in Ukraine to monitor the situation in the country for US commercial image provider BlackSky.

The Rocket Lab rocket has already been used for similar missions: the NROL-151 (RASR-1) apparatus was successfully launched into space in early 2020, and RASR-2 in June of the same year.

60 minutes after launch, the payload will be disconnected from the upper stage. A controlled return of the first stage was not planned.

The mission patches feature an Australian wedge-tailed eagle and a frilled lizard, symbolizing the Australian MoD NRO partnership.

Earlier, the Pentagon assessed the achievements of Ukrainian troops using new American HIMARS weapons.

Recall that the fourth meeting of the Contact Group on the Defense of Ukraine in the format Ramstein will be held online on July 20.
