In the Sumy region, the court convicted the father and uncle of a minor girl with disabilities, where they systematically committed sexual violence. The Office of the Prosecutor General announced this on Friday, December 13.
Since 2016, the father systematically raped his daughter, born in 2005, who, due to mental disorders and mental retardation, could not defend herself. In 2018, his uncle, who lives with the family, joined these crimes.
In addition, the father is also responsible in court for the attempted sexual assault of his other daughter, who is 15 years old, and his 14-year-old niece. Because the women fought back and stood up for themselves, the man’s intentions remained unfulfilled.
Law enforcement only learned the facts of the violence in March 2021. Both men remained in custody throughout the investigation.
The court found them guilty of crimes against the sexual freedom and integrity of children. The girl’s father received a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. The uncle was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
