The contextual advertising service Google AdSense, which operates on YouTube, has decided to disable the accounts of users from Russia.
This was reported by Russian media, publishing a link to a letter sent by the Google Payments team to Russian users.
We are deactivating all AdSense accounts with Russia as their hosting country. This means that it will be impossible to make a profit from monetization because of such accounts, the letter says. Earnings for July will be paid between August 21 and 26, unless the account has paused receiving payments and the payment thresholds have been reached.
AdSense is the largest contextual advertising service in its field. It allows you to automatically place text and graphic advertising on websites that is contextually appropriate to the information posted there.
All Russian website owners will no longer be able to earn money by placing blocks of advertising from the AdSense network on their portals.
The same applies to Russian video bloggers, who, even after monetization was disabled for Russia after the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, were allowed by AdSense to earn money on YouTube, albeit in smaller amounts – due to users watching videos from abroad or through a VPN service that allows you to virtually change your location.
Now, bloggers from Russia will no longer receive money, regardless of which country their videos are viewed from.
“So that it opens, but brings pain” – in Russia, by order of the authorities, YouTube is being significantly slowed down
