The opinion about the need to move to peace negotiations is mostly expressed by Russian women and young people aged 18 to 24 years.
In Russia, for the first time in six months, a noticeable increase in supporters of peace negotiations with Ukraine was recorded. This is confirmed by data from the Levada Center, published the previous day.
Thus, in a survey conducted at the end of June, 58% of respondents supported peace negotiations.
Previous peaks occurred in October 2022 and November 2023 – 57% each. At the same time, 37% of respondents believe that military actions against Ukraine should be continued.
As follows from the results of the survey, the opinion about the need to move to peace negotiations is more often expressed by women (64%), young Russians (66% aged 18 to 24 years), those who barely have enough to eat (64% ), rural residents (65%), respondents who do not agree with Putin’s activities as president (75%) and trust information from YouTube channels (65 %).
The fact that the war against Ukraine must be continued is said more often by men (47%), respondents aged 55 years and older (40%), wealthier Russians (40% of those with ability to purchase durable goods), and residents of Moscow (56%), respondents who believe that things in the country are going in the right direction (44%), approve of the activities of the current president (40%) , and trust information on television (42%).
There has been little change in Russian opinion about who is more interested in peace negotiations. Today, as a year ago, about 40% of respondents say that Russia is of primary interest, almost one in four believes that Ukraine, and about 30% of respondents say that both sides are equally interested.
Two-thirds of survey participants (65%) blame the US and NATO countries for the loss of life and destruction in Ukraine, one in ten considers Ukraine responsible, and only 6% blames Russia. The Levada Center said that over the year, the share of respondents who believed that the United States and NATO were to blame for the deaths in Ukraine increased by 10%.
More than half of those surveyed (58%) believe that the war in Ukraine could escalate into an armed conflict between the Russian Federation and NATO countries.
A third of respondents said they considered Russia’s use of nuclear weapons during the invasion of Ukraine to be justified; 52% of respondents have the opposite opinion. Compared to April 2023, the share of those who believe that the use of nuclear weapons is “probably” justified has increased by 5%.
We remind you that Russia will not be the first to cease fire in Ukraine. He is also unhappy with potential mediators to start peace negotiations. This statement was made by the head of the Russian regime, Vladimir Putin.
Earlier, the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky announced a likely model for negotiations with the Russian Federation. We are talking about mediation between countries, as in grain corridor agreements. The head of state also named two possible mediators.
Afterwards, the Kremlin said that Russia was “open to dialogue” with Ukraine.
