In particular, the residence of the ex-regional and current president of the National University “Odessa Law Academy” Sergei Kivalov was damaged (the building was officially designated as the academy’s educational and health complex).
Over there, his house is on fire, but they’re loading him into an ambulance,” residents of Odessa comment on the injuries of ex-regional activist and current president of the Odessa Law Academy, Kivalov.
According to local public information, Kivalov received a shrapnel wound to his thigh and was taken to a local hospital with venous bleeding, from where he went to a private one.
What is known about Kivalovo
Kivalov was accused of participating in fraud during the 2004 presidential elections. This earned him the nickname “count it up.”
He, along with Andrei Portnov, was the ideologist of the 2010 judicial reform. Experts noted that the judicial reform of 2010 was carried out under conditions of complete dominance of Yanukovych in the political system of Ukraine, in a very short time and behind the scenes.
On April 27, 2010, he voted for the ratification of the Kharkov Agreements.
On January 16, 2014, he voted for the “Dictatorial Laws of January 16.”
The decision of the ECHR in the case “Alexander Volkov v. Ukraine” fixed the role of Kivalov in the issue of bringing judges to disciplinary liability. This concerns the period when he combined the positions of member of the High Council of Justice and chairman of the Committee on Justice. From the decision of the ECHR it follows that this combination of positions did not allow the right to an independent and impartial court to be exercised.
On January 18, 2018, he was one of 36 deputies who voted against the Law on the recognition of Ukrainian sovereignty over the occupied territories of Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
