The Kremlin leader tried to manipulate information to disrupt the “agreement”, but the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry exposed this attempt.
The head of Russia’s ruling regime, Vladimir Putin, has been spreading disinformation about the export of grains to “well-fed countries” to disrupt the “grain deal”. This was announced on Monday, March 20, by the speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Ukraine, Oleg Nikolenko, on his Facebook page.
It should be noted that in his speech at the Russia-Africa parliamentary conference, Putin said that Ukraine’s agricultural products are allegedly sent to “well-fed countries” and not to African states. The Kremlin leader claimed that 45% of Ukrainian grain was allegedly “given to European countries and only 3% to Africa.”
The representative of the Ukrainian department stressed that the information revealed by Putin is manipulative and aimed at disrupting the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
As of August 1, 2022, Ukraine has exported 25.1 million tons of agricultural products through the “grain corridor” to 45 countries of the world. Of these, 2.9 million tons were sent to African countries, ie 11.6%, to Asia – 12.1 million tons (48.2%), to Europe – 10.1 million tons (40.2%), the spokesperson said.
“Russia also knows that part of the Ukrainian grain bought by the “well-fed countries” of Europe is sent as humanitarian re-export to Africa and Asia. Therefore, the actual statistics of exports to the African continent are higher than 11.6%. Not to mention that almost 50% of the production goes to support Asian countries,” Nikolenko summed up.
As we already wrote, Putin once again threatened to end the grain corridor if “the basic requirements of Moscow are not met.” The Kremlin leader argued that most of the grain along the Black Sea corridor goes to “well-fed European countries”, and not to Africa.
It should be noted that on March 18 it became known that Ukraine reached an agreement with Turkey and the UN to extend the grain deal for another 120 days. Russia said it extended the grain deal for just 60 days.
