The Russians suffered heavy losses near Vuhledar due to the remote mine systems RAAMS, which the Armed Forces of Ukraine successfully used.
British Defense Ministry intelligence said that in some places the mines were thrown behind enemy units that were advancing on the positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. This caused confusion and panic as Russian vehicles tried to withdraw.

The RAAMS is a 155mm howitzer projectile that scatters anti-tank mines at a distance of 4 to 17.6 km. It was these remote anti-armor mine systems that became one of the factors for the large losses of the Russian army in this sector.
Russia’s only notable tactical success of late has been in the Bakhmut area, which is dominated by Wagner group mercenary forces involved in a public feud from the Russian Defense Ministry, the authors write.
Probably, the Russian Ministry of Defense was so persistently striving for success in Vugledar because it wanted to compete with the achievements of the Wagner PPK, the report says.
