Ukraine, along with European allies on Saturday, showed counter-proposal to end the Russian-Ukrainian war in response to Vladimir Putin’s plan. The Wall Street Journal reported it on August 9.
According to two European officials who are familiar with negotiations, their plan must be a frame basis for the future meeting of US president Donald Trump and the leader of Russia.
The proposal emphasizes the need to stop fire in any other steps, as well as mutual exchange of territories, which excludes unilateral concessions. In addition, the plan provides for the mandatory security guarantee for KYIV, which potentially includes Ukrainian membership in NATO.
The plan refuses Putin’s request to move part of the Donetsk region without concessions with one another and aims to promote the clear “red line” before the Trump and Putin meeting in Alaska.
The Ukrainian-European plan was introduced to US Victor, Jay Di Di Vincent at a meeting in the UK. Other American officials, including state secretary Marco Rubio, special US supervisor in the Ukraine Kell Kellogg and a Messenger in Russia Steve Vitkoff, participated in negotiations with video communications.
According to European businessmen, “You can’t start the process, giving way to territory amid hate.”
Some officials also emphasize that if Ukraine moves the entire Russian Donetsk region, Moscow will have to withdraw its troops from the coverage of the regions of Zaporizhzhya and Kherson.
