Only one of the convicts was imprisoned. In other cases, suspended sentences or fines were imposed.
Czech courts have issued nine final judgments approving Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Radio Prague International reported this on March 15, citing data from the republic’s fiscal office.
It is known that charges have been brought against 58 people. In 90 cases, an investigation was launched, which is at the stage of preliminary verification.
As the radio station recalled, in February last year, Prosecutor General Igor Strzhizh said that public statements made during demonstrations or published on social networks, the authors of which approve the Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, can be considered as a criminal offense.
According to Czech law, such actions are punishable by imprisonment of up to one year (supporting a criminal act) and from six months to three years (supporting a genocide).
In an interview with the newspaper Právo, Striz pointed out that only one of the nine prisoners was imprisoned. This is activist Patrick Tuschl, who at the end of 2022 was sentenced to nine months in prison for statements that incite hatred against Ukrainians.
In other cases, courts have used suspended sentences or monetary fines.
Earlier it was reported that a criminal investigation was completed in Croatia against four citizens of the country that caught up with the arrested Russian yacht in Turkey.
