Semyon Krivonos assured the ambassadors of the independence of the investigations conducted by the Bureau’s detectives.

The new director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, Semyon Krivonos, held a meeting with the ambassadors of the G7 countries and the European Union. This was reported on the NABU website on the morning of Thursday, March 16.

It was indicated that during the meeting, the ambassadors expressed further support for NABU in the fight against corruption in Ukraine.

“We strictly follow the implementation of reforms. After all, helping Ukraine in the fight against corruption is one of our priorities. Now more than ever, it is important to ensure the independence of anti-corruption institutions, their competence and active communication together with society and international partners,” said Japanese Ambassador to Ukraine Matsuda Kuninori.

Chris Smith, Deputy Head of Mission at the US Embassy in Ukraine, emphasized: “There are two wars: with Russia and corruption, and we both support Ukraine in both.”

The director of NABU assured the ambassadors that he will ensure the independence of detectives’ investigations, openness of personnel decisions and organize the work so that NABU’s results are fully appreciated by Ukrainian society and international partners.

“Regardless of position and political affiliation, if a person is involved in committing a crime of corruption, the case of his actions must be investigated and, if there are objective and sufficient grounds, sent to court. There is no compromise when it comes to the independence of NABU and me as its director” – said Krivonos.

The NABU director also told the ambassadors some challenges for the bureau that need to be addressed: insufficient number of operational and technical personnel and detectives, problems with expertise in criminal proceedings, and improvement in the crisis communication process .

“In order to increase the effectiveness of investigations, it is necessary to increase the staff by 300 employees, create a specialized institution under NABU, create the appropriate material and technical base. I count on the support of partners in the implementation of this initiative,” added the NABU director.

It can be recalled that on March 6, it was learned that the Cabinet of Ministers appointed Semyon Krivonos, who previously headed the State Inspectorate for Architecture and Urban Planning, as the director of NABU.
