Gainer Alvarado is in the country, but John Silva he has been on the run from justice since the middle of last year. According to journalists, he will live in Venezuela, despite the existence of an arrest warrant.
Both charges against the former ministers will now be forwarded to the National Prosecutor’s Office to continue the process. Now the investigation will be formalized and a criminal case initiated.
The final report was approved by the Subcommittee on Constitutional Charges on December 29 last year, and then by the Standing Committee on February 10.
Pedro Castillo convicted constitutionally
The plenary session of Congress also approved the constitutional indictment of former President Pedro Castillo for alleged crimes of criminal organization, influence peddling and conspiracy. By 59 votes in favour, 23 against and 3 abstentions, the parliamentary representation decided to approve the constitutional complaint submitted by the National Prosecutor, Patricia Benavidez, in the case of Puente Tarata – PetroPeru.
Thanks to this, prosecutor Patricia Benavidez will be able to continue the investigation of the former president and formalize the preliminary investigation. The ex-president continues to be in preventive detention for the crime of mutiny after the failed coup d’état.
Castillo’s defense took several legal actions to force the former president to stand trial at large, but none of them were favorable.
Otarola is pronounced
In this regard, Prime Minister Alberto Otarola warned that former President Pedro Castillo intends to submit a precautionary measure to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) to return him to freedom and reinstate him as head of state.
“What we noticed is this gentleman’s attempt to resort to international jurisdiction, probably in order to ask for two things: for his freedom and for restoration to the presidency. It is very likely that this gentleman will present a complaint to the Inter-American Commission and a precautionary measure in this sense, ”he said exclusively News RPP.
In this sense, the Prime Minister said that the Peruvian state, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice, is ready to defend itself before international jurisdiction.
“[Pedro Castillo] He will try to defend his political rights and question the pre-trial detention for the apparent coup d’état and the crime it committed, as well as question the succession of the constitution. Then the international arena will open for us,” he said.
