Last week, the automaker announced that the contracts of 300 temporary workers at the Grünheide plant would not be renewed.
American automaker Tesla plans to cut 400 jobs at its European plant near Berlin. This is reported by dpa in connection with the company’s press service.
To avoid forced layoffs, the company is reportedly planning a “voluntary program” for workers and will talk to the works council to achieve this.
The automaker announced last week that the contracts of 300 temporary workers at the Grünheide plant would not be renewed, but the company’s contractual partner has already employed most of the laid-off temporary workers.
“The current weakening sales market for electric vehicles also poses challenges for Tesla,” the company explained the situation.
Currently, Tesla’s German plant employs more than 12 thousand people.
Recall that Tesla sales fell for the first time in four years. The most recent sales decline occurred in 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic forced Tesla to halt production.
