Not all products have yet made it physically across the border, and many vehicles are still waiting in lines to leave.
In September, Ukraine managed to export 4.2 million tons of agricultural products, which is 3% less than the same figure for the previous month. The press service of the Ukrainian Agricultural Business Club reported this on October 3.
It was noted that not all products managed to physically cross the border, and a significant number of vehicles were waiting in queues to leave.
UCAB states that such a volume of exports in the context of the almost daily shelling of the Ukrainian port infrastructure of the Danube river ports by Russian troops is a good result. However, such indicators remain almost twice lower than the maximum volume of exports during the war, when it was possible to export significant volumes, including from the sea ports of Odessa ( within the grain corridor, – ed.).
“The main success of the export of agricultural products in September was the first attempts to send through a temporary sea corridor. Although the export volumes through this channel are insignificant , having such an experience without the participation of the Russian side opens up new prospects ,” the club said.
As for the structure of product exports in September, it looks like this:
-
grain crops: 2.1 million tons (wheat – 63%, corn – 30%, barley – 6%). Decrease compared to last month: -10%;
-
oilseeds – 880.9 thousand tons (rapeseed – 75%, soybeans – 23% and sunflower seeds – 1%). Growth: 17%.
-
vegetable oils – 479.9 thousand tons (sunflower oil – 74%, rapeseed oil – 22% and soybean oil – 3%). Decrease: -13%.
-
cake after extraction of vegetable oils – 415.3 thousand tons (sunflower – 95%, soy – 5%). Growth: 13%.
The structure of exports changes according to the harvest stages. That is why now more wheat and rapeseed are exported, and soybean exports are gradually increasing.
The main expectations for the next month regarding the further recovery of export volumes of agricultural products is a gradual increase in shipments through a temporary sea corridor without the involvement of the Russian side and the establishment of the export process of four types of products (wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds) to five neighboring EU countries through a licensing system.
We remind you that the other day, Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba announced that in the near future Ukraine plans to open another overland railway corridor for the export of Ukrainian grain.
