This week, the city of Tacna began an indefinite strike with the closure of markets, fairs, galleries and shopping centers, which is already causing losses in various sectors.

The main sector affected in Tacna is sightseeingresulting in a loss of $500,000 per day due to the absence of Chilean tourists, the Association of Hotels, Restaurants and Allies in the region points out.

Until last month, Chile’s entry to Tacna was between 2,200 and 2,600, they specify, but in recent days it has dropped to around 500 views.

“What is happening is that one of the blockades is happening very close to Santa Rosa, which is discouraging for the Chileans, in addition to the whole context that exists in our country. This is unfortunate because every Chilean arriving in tacna a tourist ticket costs an average of $150 a day,” explained Mei Mori, the union president.

It is worth noting that, according to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, more than 80% of foreign tourists entering Tacna come from Chile.

In addition, it is estimated that 85% of tourism revenue in Tacna comes from Travelers Chileans.

In the case of the hotel sector alone, establishments are estimated to remain 10% occupied, “which is in line with Chileans who arrived before the protests began.”

In addition, they indicate that most restaurants remain closed, and those that are still working do so behind closed doors.
