The ships were heading north of the Mediterranean on their way back to Russia. However, on Tuesday morning, the group changed direction and started heading south again.
The Defense Forces of Ireland, the United Kingdom and the United States monitored the activity of Russian warships, which remained in international waters, but within the Irish Exclusive Economic Zone (FEZ), and on August 30 U- turn to the coast of the country. This was reported by Euractiv.
It was noted that the ships followed the northern Mediterranean Sea and were seen on the southern coast of Ireland, returning to Russia through the Irish Sea or the English Channel.
However, on Tuesday morning, the group changed direction and started heading south again.
Irish air and naval forces were mobilized to track the ships, which were also tracked by the British Royal Navy. The group consisted of at least two warships and a naval tanker.
One of the ships was the cruise missile ship Marshal Ustinov, which was scheduled to take part in a planned live-fire exercise off the coast of Ireland in February. But after a rejection by Dublin and the Irish fishing industry, Russia moved the training outside the country’s FEZ.
The Irish Defense Forces said they were aware of the ship’s activities and were “monitoring the situation”.
It was noted that these movements took place shortly after another group of Russian warships was spotted in the Adriatic between Italy and Albania, causing concern on both sides of the Strait of Otranto.
It was previously reported that the Russian fleet in the Black Sea has increased to 15 ships.
