The first flight of Evtol by general airspace brings the appearance of urban aviation – the company hopes to bring commercial services to the market after the certification in 2028.
The company Vertical Aerospace on the first time in the world has conducted a manned flight of a new generation of electrical aerotaxi between two current airports, New Atlas reports. The VX-4 Convertoplane overcame 27 km. Although the route was short, it passed through an ordinary wind.
The VX-4 aircraft combines the properties of aircraft and helicopter: it takes and sits vertically, but on flight to a horizontal regime. This combination is especially relevant for urban conditions where there is no place for traditional paths. The device is controlled by a pilot, however, remote and automatic control are also provided, which will open wide opportunities for passengers, rescue, medical and even military activities.
The VX-4 is designed for four passengers and is shown in two-versions-complete electric and hybrids with an additional generator. The maximum speed is up to 185 km/h, the height of the flight is up to 550 m. The power version supply is approximately 160 km, and has a hybrid installation -up to 1600 km. The maximum carrying capacity is 1100 kg.

The machine has eight rotary screws on the wing: four of them are controlled, the rest is fixed. This design provides a steady move between vertical take -offs and horizontal flights. Machines are powered by batteries with high density of lithium-ion certified according to flight standards. In the case of system failure, a source of backup power is provided.
During trials, the VX-4 hardly creates noise or heat. The noise level during the take -off does not exceed 60 dB, which corresponds to the noise in the background of the big city. This makes the device fit for use in the urban environment, where traditional helicopters create discomfort.
Flights are allowed by the aviation authorities of Great Britain. Test results have confirmed that the technology is willing to include in the existing infrastructure. By the end of the year, a flight of an enhanced version was planned, after which the company hopes to complete the certification by 2028 and bring commercial services to the market.
We remind you, earlier it was reported that the first electric flight to the world made a flight with passengers.
In the UK, shipment flights to hydrogen and electrical thrust will be launched
