The measures are related to the implementation of sanctions against Russia and aim to make it impossible to import sanctioned goods into the Russian Federation.
On August 8, Estonia decided to introduce improved customs controls at the border with Russia. Innovations apply to all border crossings on the Russian-Estonian border – in Narva, Luhamaa and Koidula. ERR reported this on Thursday, August 8.
All travelers from Estonia to Russia will be subject to customs checks.
First of all, we are talking about visual control and questioning, but if there are suspicions, further examination is possible, including an x-ray, said Finance Minister Jürgen League. Cars will be given special attention.
The measures are related to the implementation of sanctions against Russia and aim to make it impossible to import sanctioned goods into the Russian Federation.
“By introducing full controls on goods, we will reduce Russia’s ability to evade sanctions and maintain its war machine,” said Prime Minister Kristen Michal.
It was previously reported that a record number of Russians have been recorded in refugee reception centers in Estonia.
We remind you that Estonia will start building a defense line on the border with Russia in 2025. Within the project, 600 bunkers will be built.
