In July, the brand lost positions in almost all major markets, despite attempts to update the model scope.
Tesla sales in July have dropped most of European countries again, even despite the launch of the updated version of the Model Y Electric Crossover, Reuters report. In general, for the first half of Tesla sales in Europe, more than one third.
According to official numbers, in July, the number of registered Tesla fell 86% in Sweden (up to 163 cars), by 52% in Denmark (336 cars), by 27% in France (1307 cars), by 62% in the Netherlands (443 cars) and 58% in Belgium (460 cars). The fall was also recorded in Italy (-5%, up to 457 cars) and Portugal (-49%, up to 284 cars).
However, not all markets have shown a decline. In Norway, sales in July grew 83%, and in Spain – by 27%. The reason, in particular, is the company’s aggressive credit policy: Tesla offers 0% per year for loans to individual Scandinavian countries. At the same time, in Spain, the total electrified car market grew 155%, and Chinese competitor Tesla, Byd, sold 2158 cars, which was eight times more than last year.
Ilon Musk admitted that the company was waiting for “many complex quarters”, which were given the absence of new budget models before the end of the year and the approach of completing subsidies for consumers of electric vehicles in the United States. He also pointed out difficult regulation conditions in the EU, which prevents the introduction of an autonomous driving system, which is a major factor in model Y in the United States.
Tesla started selling an updated all -wheel drive version of Model Y in Europe in March 2025, and rear -wheel drive in May. Despite this, Model Y registers in July fell 88% in Sweden and 49% in Denmark. At the same time, in Norway, they rose more than four times – up to 715 cars.
Meanwhile, other European automakers, in particular Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis, Renault and BMW, have also warned the collapse of demand and pressure from the United States’s new import duties.
We reminded, earlier it was reported that Volkswagen had preceded Tesla in the European electric car market.
