This was reported by the ASTRA publication, citing its own sources.
It is noted that this time the FAB that “abnormally came off” from the Russian plane was found 18 km from the Ukrainian border – 4 km from the village of Kruty Log. There were no casualties as a result of this incident.
Thus, this is at least 121 aerial bombs that the Russian Aerospace Forces launched into their own and occupied territories of Ukraine in March, April, May, June and July 2024, the publication notes.
In mid-June, in a commentary to ASTRA, the founder of the Conflict Intelligence Team, Ruslan Leviev, reported that the reasons for the regular fall of Russian air bombs on the Russian Federation are not exactly known, since similar Western weapons do not have such problems.
Moreover, this problem has existed with Russian aerial bombs since the beginning of the use of planning and correction modules, thanks to which the free fall of FAB bombs turns into gliding.
The reasons may be insufficient quality of the pyropatrons that are supposed to open the wings, or other problems with the mechanics or electronics, such as design flaws or manufacturing defects.
It is important to understand that, unlike Western high-rise buildings, UMPKs are made for relatively little money in large quantities using civilian electronics (which have lower reliability requirements), he noted.
However, Leviev emphasizes that only a small proportion of bombs fall—perhaps just a few percent—and therefore, according to him, the problem does not affect the practical effectiveness of this weapon.
