The dynamics of the spread of measles in Ukraine is “fast”, however, “controlled and expected.” According to forecasts, the growth of the range will increase in the fall.
In Ukraine, since the beginning of the year, compared to the same period last year, the incidence of measles in Ukraine increased more than 11 times. The situation was said by the Deputy General Director of the Center for Public Health Alexei Danilenko, informing the National Portal on Immunization.
According to Danilenko, for six months, 1196 measles cases were registered. When we compare it to the same period of last year, we have an increase in range more than 11 times.
Among the factors for this situation:
-
High opposite (contrast) of the disease: after contact with the patient, a massive number of people may become ill;
-
Caria’s cyclicity of flashes: every 5-6 years-after several layers of non-immune children accumulate measles;
-
The increasing range in Ukraine’s border countries: in Romania, Hungary, Moldova.
Basic vaccination is the most effective way to prevent this disease, so it is necessary for children. After all, there is no specific treatment of measles, just symptoms.
Measles is not an “easy” disease: especially dangerous for its complications. It can be a wide range of diseases, most common in which is pneumonia (inflammation of the lungs), encephalitis (inflammation of the brain), otitis media (inflammation of the ears). But complications are possible from other organs and systems, that is, it is very difficult to clearly outline the circle of organs that can be affected by measles.
In the first phase of the disease, there is a risk of confusing measles to other diseases, as the onset is similar to the onset of many other diseases, Danilenko’s note. The first symptoms include fever, conjunctivitis, rhinitis. Such symptoms can take up to seven days and resemble ordinary SAR. Four days before the appearance of a certain rash, the patient begins to regulate the virus and has a source of infection. Next, the characteristic white spots over the cheeks may appear-the so-called Belsky-Filatov-koplic spots-and a phased rash (starting with head to body and lower extremities).
So even after the first symptoms of SARS, they are advised to seek medical help, and a family doctor will decide on the patient’s further behavior.
“If we talk about Ukraine, then last year we have about 90% of the children’s range. Over 5 months of this year, we have a vaccination plan up to 40%, that is, by the end of the year we plan to reach 90+% of the census range against Kori,” Danilenko said.
In general, the dynamics of the spread of measles in Ukraine is fast, but controlled and expected. At the same time, a further increase in the fall incidence is possible with the mass accumulation of children in organized groups during the education process.
In Ukraine, as in most countries of the world, a comprehensive PDA vaccine is used to protect against measles, which also protects against rubella and epidemic glasses (“pork”). For optimal protection, it is necessary to obtain 2 doses of vaccines, providing measles protection by 97%.
Note that in the first three months of 2025 in Ukraine, about half a hundred measles of measles were registered. Then, compared to the same period of 2024, the range increased more than 20 times.
