The leak of reagents continues at Zaporizhia NPP due to the actions of the occupiers

At power unit No. 5 of the Zaporozhye NPP, the leakage of reagents from the primary circuit to the second circuit continues, this resulted in criminal actions of the Russian occupiers.

    .

Energoatom reported this on November 16.

As a result of the transfer – in violation of the terms of the license of the State Nuclear Regulatory Authority and the requirements of Energoatom – of the 5th power unit of the temporarily occupied Zaporizhia NPP to a “hot” state, an incident occurred with a leak of reagents from the primary circuit of the reactor to the second. Despite the existing violations, the occupation leadership is in no hurry to transfer the unit to a “cold shutdown” state, using the steam generated by the 5th power unit for heating and meeting the station’s own needs, says Energoatom.

Energoatom once again noted that the Zaporozhye NPP must be immediately returned under the full control of the legal operator, because this ensures compliance with the nuclear and radiation safety of the facility.

Due to violation of licensing conditions by the occupiers, a number of emergencies occurred at the Zaporozhye NPP, the most recent of which occurred on November 14, 2023.

Due to the incompetence of the Russian invaders and employees of the Russian state corporation Rosatom, a partial blackout occurred. Power unit No. 6 of Zaporizhia NPP was de-energized, then diesel generators and security systems were started. The unit remained in this mode for 90 minutes.

Previously, a danger was detected at power unit No. 4. As a result of its heating, radioactive coolant (water) leaked from the first to another circuit, which is a violation of one of the barriers to the spread of radioactive contamination.

A similar situation occurred when trying to “warm up” power unit No. 6. In addition, the stupid decision of the current “drivers” of the station to transfer it to a “hot” state led to a significant increase in liquid radioactive waste at the station site, which causes potential damage to personnel and the population and environment.
