The European Commission hopes to find an optimal solution that will allow the movement of Ukrainian trucks blocked by Polish carriers to continue.
Representatives of the European Commission visited one of the Ukrainian border checkpoints, which were blocked by Polish carriers, calling the consequences “very impressive.” It was reported by Radio Liberty.
So, on November 15, a high-level delegation of the European Commission visited the border crossing point in Poland, where the protests are taking place, to participate in discussions with both sides – the government and the protesters.
“This visit allows us to see the situation on the ground and assess the consequences of this protest, which is very impressive. The queues at the borders are very long. The conditions for the truckers are very difficult. There are also very impressive economic consequences from this protest. Of course, we carefully measure its impact on the ground “said European Commission Speaker Adalbert Janz.
At the same time, the European Commission has not been able to provide figures that can describe the current situation in arithmetical terms. “We don’t have specific figures we can give at this stage about the actual impact on trade,” said European Commission spokesman Eric Mamer.
Commenting on the demands of Polish carriers to introduce commercial permits for colleagues in Ukraine, Janz confirmed the position previously voiced by the European Commission.
“Any reintroduction of a system of permits or quotas for road transport is legally unenforceable, as it is incompatible with the road transport agreement between Ukraine and the EU. This road transport agreement, of course , was also completed with the consent of the member states,” he recalled to the Speaker of the European Commission.
In his opinion, first of all, the national authorities of both member states and Ukraine should ensure compliance with the provisions of the training agreement.
“Also, if there are implementation problems, this is something we can discuss and help the authorities in discussions to solve any problems in practice – in dialogue,” concluded Janz.
We remind you that yesterday, November 15, representatives of Ukraine, together with the Ministry of Infrastructure of Poland and the European Commission Directorate for Transport and Mobility, held negotiations at the Dorogusk checkpoint. Polish transporters rejected the common proposals of the European Commission, Ukraine and Poland and refused to stop blocking the border.
The Vice-President of the Association of International Road Carriers of Ukraine Vladimir Balin said that each day of delay at the border costs Ukrainian carriers at least 300 euros.
As you know, on November 6, a strike by Polish carriers began on the Polish-Ukrainian border. The movement of trucks was blocked at checkpoints Korchova – Krakovets, Grebennoye – Rava-Russkaya, Dorogusk – Yagodin. The Poles demand the return of permits for commercial transport for Ukraine.
