Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Budapest is ready to negotiate with Kiev over 500 million euros from the EU, the transfer of which Hungary had previously blocked.

    .

We are waiting for the Ukrainian delegation to come to Budapest to negotiate on this matter. We are open and ready to conclude an agreement,” Orbán said.

Since May, Budapest has been blocking the allocation of the EU tranche to Ukraine in the amount of 500 million euros. The country’s authorities stated that they might change their minds if Ukraine excluded the Hungarian OTP Bank from the list of international war sponsors.

NAPC agreed to these conditions, but Hungary further stated that this was “an insufficient step.”

Today, before a meeting of EU leaders in Brussels, Orban said that he expects the Ukrainian delegation to arrive in Budapest for negotiations on providing assistance to Ukraine.

In addition, Orban explained why he still communicates with Putin. He is proud to continue communication with Russia. He says he continues to communicate for the sake of peace.

The Hungarian Prime Minister called Budapest’s policy in this direction “very transparent”, adding that it is “different from the majority.” He also believes that Hungary is “the only one who speaks out in favor of peace, which would be in the interests of everyone in Europe.”

We have a very clear policy on this matter, which differs from the strategy of many others here. You have a war strategy, we have a peace strategy. And we want to do everything to ensure there is peace. Therefore, we support all channels of communication with Russia, otherwise there will be no chance for peace. This is our strategy and we are proud of it. We are the only ones who speak for and for peace,” he said.

The Guardian writes that Hungary is becoming increasingly isolated in the EU and doubts arise whether it can be trusted.

Orbán’s recent meeting with Putin in Beijing and the way the Hungarian prime minister compared the EU to the Soviet Union calls into question whether we can still trust this country as an ally and partner, the publication quotes one European diplomat.

The problems with Hungary “are likely to get deeper and deeper and increasingly threaten joint decisions on strategically important issues,” he added.

Another senior European diplomat said that “Hungary is becoming more and more isolated as Sweden’s delay in NATO membership has a negative impact on the security of all allies.”
