NYT: Israeli analysts named previous reasons for failure to hold the border

In Israel, analysts have identified preliminary reasons for the country’s failure to secure its border. The American edition of The New York Times writes about this with reference to several unnamed representatives of the Israeli government.

    .

Israeli intelligence services have failed to monitor communications lines of Hamas militants and have relied excessively on electronics to monitor the situation on the border. Before the attack, the militants destroyed communications towers there and virtually denied the Israelis access. In addition, in recent years the number of Israeli soldiers in the border areas has been reduced and replaced with surveillance cameras.

Analysts also noted an operational mistake by the command, which placed the leadership of the division stationed on the border at one base. Hamas captured it immediately after the attack began and the communications system was disabled.

In addition, Israeli intelligence services took at face value the intercepted conversations of militant leaders that they supposedly had no plans to attack Israel.

Let us recall that recently the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives, Michael McCaul, indicated what kind of priority assistance the United States will allocate to Israel, and what is known about Russia’s likely role in this conflict in the Middle East.
