The restrictive measures taken by the EU against Russia are aimed primarily at strengthening existing EU sanctions and stopping their circumvention. Sub-sanction lists have also been expanded.
Today’s package increases our pressure on Russia and Putin’s war machine,” EU High Representative Josep Borrell commented on the decision.
The list includes 87 subjects supporting the Russian military-defense complex. In particular, 4 Iranian UAV manufacturers.
The EU has expanded the ban on the transport of goods to Europe by road to trucks registered outside of Russia. They also banned access to EU ports and gateways for any ships that violate the ban on the import of Russian crude oil and petroleum products.
Another important element of the 11th package of sanctions is the ban on the transit through the territory of Russia of goods and technologies that it can use to strengthen its military or technology sector. This includes products for the aviation and space industries, jet fuels and fuel additives.
No tankers are allowed to enter the ports of the European Union if the competent authorities suspect that they are helping Muscovites bypass the European embargo or price restriction on oil or oil products.
The embargo on Russia is expanding to electronic components, semiconductor materials, equipment for the production and testing of microcircuits, precursors for energy-intensive materials (explosives) and chemical weapons, optical components, navigational instruments, metals for the defense sector, marine equipment.
The ban includes five Russian media (RT Balkans, Oriental Review, Tsargrad, New Eastern Review, Katehon), which are under the constant control of the Russian regime and are used to spread propaganda and manipulation.
The European Union extended the ban on the carriage of goods by road to trailers and semi-trailers registered in Russia, even if the truck itself is from a third country.
The import of Russian oil by the northern branch of Druzhba to Germany and Poland is prohibited.
In addition to economic sanctions, the Council of the EU decided to introduce individual sanctions against a large number of new individuals and legal entities. Their list will be published later.
