In the Russian-captured city of Energodar at the Zaporizhzhya NPP, the shortage of professional workers who can ensure the life of the nuclear power plant is growing catastrophically.
After the Russian occupiers employed people without the appropriate education and experience at the nuclear power plant, the term of the contract with the representatives of Rosatom expired. At the same time, they were denied signing a new or extending an existing contract.
They were also denied the right to return to Russia, since there is no one to work at the nuclear power plant. All this can lead to unpredictable consequences, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted on the evening of March 13.
On March 9, Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant was brought out of another blackout. After the Russian missile attack, the station was again completely disconnected from the network.
“Specialists of Ukrenergo have resumed power supply to the Zaporozhye NPP. ZNPP switched from diesel generators to electricity generation for the needs of the United Energy System of Ukraine.
On Sunday, March 12, Russia launched a fake that Ukraine allegedly abandoned the idea of creating a protective zone around the ZNPP. Pro-Kremlin media wrote that Ukraine “is not ready to implement the IAEA initiative, which ruled out attacks from the territory of the power plant and against it.”
In fact, it is Ukraine that supports all the efforts of the international community to demilitarize the captured Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, while Russia does not stop systematically shelling the nuclear facility.
In August 2022, at a meeting of the UN Security Council, they called for an immediate cessation of all hostilities near the plant, providing the IAEA mission with access to the facility and creating a demilitarized zone around the Zaporozhye NPP. Russia categorically rejected the calls, but in September agreed to a brief IAEA mission.
On March 5, Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko said that negotiations on the return of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant to Ukrainian control had reached an impasse.
The position of Ukraine is based on the demilitarization of the station, the complete withdrawal of Russian troops and representatives of Rosatom, as well as the creation of a safe environment for the work of personnel. At the same time, the Russians issued a decree that ZNPP is “federal” property.
Ukraine also receives alarm signals from the IAEA mission. The Russians are extremely unprofessional at the station – they operate it in such a mode that the condition of the equipment is deteriorating significantly.
