The organization expressed disappointment that the United States did not share with the WHO more information from the reports that speak about the origin of the coronavirus.
Experts from the World Health Organization do not have a definitive answer to the origin of COVID-19. The work is still ongoing. This was said by the organization’s CEO Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, according to Reuters.
“WHO has not abandoned any hypotheses about the origin of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Ghebreyesus.
In this regard, the technical head of the WHO for COVID-19, Maria Van Kerkhove, expressed disappointment that the United States did not share with the WHO more information from the reports that speak about the origin of the coronavirus.
He called on countries, institutions and researchers who have any data on the origin of the pandemic to share it.
“We don’t have a complete answer to the question of how this pandemic started,” he said.
According to Van Kerkhove, it is important to study coronaviruses in animals and how people interact with these animals.
“The work in this direction is ongoing: research on people, animals and their interaction, as well as the study of potential violations of biosecurity and biosecurity of any of the laboratories that have worked on coronaviruses. Especially where the first cases were found: in Wuhan or elsewhere,” – he said.
It will be recalled that last week the media released data from the US Department of Energy intelligence report, indicating that the COVID-19 pandemic likely resulted from a leak in a Chinese laboratory.
Earlier, at a meeting of the WHO Emergency Committee on COVID-19, it was decided to continue the pandemic, which has been going on for three years, because it does not stop being a “global threat”.
