Russian hackers tried to attack the electronic systems of housing infrastructure in one of the border regions of Ukraine.
Through the Wi-Fi network of apartment buildings, cyber-attackers wanted to remotely connect to the video surveillance system for the territory of residential complexes and nearby roads. They planned to have a covert channel to collect data on the situation in the city. The hackers were also interested in data on the addresses of residence of Ukrainian law enforcement officers and the possible movement of military equipment. This was reported in the press center of the Security Service of Ukraine.
The cyber-specialists of the special services managed to timely expose the enemy’s attempt to carry out reconnaissance and subversive activities in the border region. Investigators opened criminal proceedings under Art. 361 (unauthorized intervention in the operation of information (automated), electronic communication, information and communication systems, electronic communication networks) of the Criminal Code.
The SBU noted that a hacker group controlled by the Russian special services, specializing in kinks in the electronic systems of infrastructure facilities, was involved in the cyber attack.
Law enforcement officers warned that such attacks could occur in the future, so citizens need to be careful and pay more attention to the security of their computer networks, use complex passwords for this and change them periodically.
Recall that on November 1, Russian telegram channels on November 1 began to massively publish posts that Russian hackers allegedly broke the protected Ukrainian military system of situational awareness Delta. However, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine called this information a fake.
