Over the past two weeks, the Russian Federation has moved many of its troops not only to the east, but also to the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions from Rostov and other regions close to the Ukrainian border.
The Russians may launch an attack in the Zaporozhye region, in the direction of Kharkiv they will try to stop the counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said Vadim Skibitsky, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate, in an interview with Corriere della Sera, published. on January 8.
He said that over the past two weeks, the Russian Federation has moved many of its troops not only to the east, but also to the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. For this, the invaders used trains and airplanes.
When asked where a new Russian offensive would come from, Skibitsky replied that they now observe increased pressure on the Donetsk region, which they want to completely occupy along with Luhansk Russian Federation since the beginning of a full-scale war.
“So far they have not succeeded. They are likely to start a new offensive in the Zaporozhye region. And in the direction of Kharkov they will try to stop our counter-offensive. They will try to hold their positions in Kherson, where they are building defenses, as well as on the Crimean Peninsula, which is strategically special for them,” said the GUR representative.
He stressed that the Ukrainian intelligence still has no evidence that an attack group has been created in Belarus or that troops have been deployed. Skibitsky suggests that Russia could use the territory of the republic as a base for “reorganization of troops.”
“But for now, Russia does not have enough troops for a new offensive from the north,” he stressed.
According to Skibitsky, the intensity of shelling in these directions may increase in the spring or summer – now it is “difficult” for Russia to move its troops due to the conditions on the ground.
Remember that Russia created the world’s largest minefield in Ukraine.
