Green seeds were found in construction work in the area of St. Johannis of Nuremberg.
During the building construction in the area of St. Johannis of Nuremberg, archaeologists discovered the green seeds. Bild reported it.
Archaeologist Melanie Langbein and her team initially believed that the number of skeletons was about a thousand, but at the end of the excavation, two thousand remains were found at a depth of one and a half meters.
Researchers suggest that these people were buried during the plague epidemic of 1632-1633. This burial became the largest Plague cemetery discovered in Germany.
The green color of the seeds comes from an old Bavarian copper factory that dumped its waste on the ground in the 19th century. The metal oxides from the copper sheets seep into the soil with the rainwater, turning the seeds green.
“We were also surprised when we saw this color. Before that, we only knew about green seeds from studies of animals or graves,” Melanie Langbein told Bild.
It is not yet known what will happen next to the found skeletons. “We are considering the possibility of donating the remains to museums, but this is a complicated issue. A lot has changed in the last 20 years. In the past, skeletons were presented, but now there are ethical problems,” added Langbein.
For science, these frameworks are more important than local museums. By analyzing the bones, scientists can draw conclusions about common diseases and malnutrition during this period.
It was previously reported that in the English County of Dorset, researchers obtained from the rocks of the so-called Jurassic Coast a giant skull of a sea “monster” – a pliosaur.
