POT announced the opening of a facility designed for the storage of rocks Mars collected by your current robot perseverance.

The object is located in Johnson Space Center in Houston, USA. It will focus on getting stones and placing them flawlessly to start learning.

Martian rocks on earth

The office will be located at Johnson’s Astromaterials Research and Exploration Sciences. POT with experience in handling and preserving extraterrestrial specimens.

Johnson will work with Mars exploration program agency to develop and develop plans for sampling and subsequent transition to scientific research. The project team will retrieve, contain, transfer, evaluate the safety, supervise and coordinate scientific studies of the collected samples.

These stones are going perseverance on a surface Mars.

In the next few years, the rover of the European Space Agency (ESA) will have to collect them in order to deliver them to Earth.

What is the mission?

Samples returned to Earth will improve understanding Mars mankind through detailed chemical and physical analyzes in laboratories around the world, which is beyond the capabilities of the instruments sent to the Red Planet.

perseverance collects specimens in and around Jezero Crater, where billions of years ago a river once flowed into a lake and deposited rock and sediment in a fan-shaped delta. Delta is one of the best places for Mars look for potential signs of ancient microbial life.

Key mission objective perseverance in Mars is astrobiology, including the storage of specimens that may contain signs of ancient microbial life. The rover is currently studying the planet’s past geology and climate, paving the way for human exploration of the Red Planet, and is the first mission to collect and store Martian rocks and regoliths.
