The mayor of Campina Grande, Bruno Cunha Lima, was honored on the 14th with the Inova Cidade Award, granted by the Smart City Business Congress (SCB-Br) in São Paulo. The award recognizes the most innovative and significant initiatives in municipal public management in Latin America.
This year, the international organization evaluated hundreds of projects, highlighting those with the greatest impact and relevance. In Campina Grande, the project that stood out was Lan House Social Campina, developed by the Municipal Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation (SECTI). This initiative aims to promote digital and social inclusion, offering access to technologies and training opportunities to the population.
During the event, Bruno Cunha Lima highlighted the importance of technology in transforming lives and combating sexual exploitation. He emphasized the role of Social Lan Houses in digital inclusion and training, which have already trained almost 2 thousand people in a variety of courses, from digital literacy to Java programming.
“Imagine a person who lived in this context and who, thanks to technology, managed to leave and today has a decent and humane job. The City Hall’s initiative, among so many lives already reached, has already managed to remove women and transvestites from situations of sexual exploitation through our courses. And this reality is being recognized here, because if it’s from Campina, it’s good. And if it’s really good, it deserves an award”, highlighted Bruno.
In partnership with the company Alpargatas, one of the largest employers in Campina Grande, the municipal government used the Lan House Social project to offer digital literacy courses to the trans and transvestite population of the city – who already participated in other disciplines offered by the company – training and helping these people enter the job market.
