Like this rodent, about 1.89 million animals such as mice, monkeys, rabbits and dogs have been used for scientific purposes in France, 28% of them for the research of new drugs. Some are euthanized and autopsied to measure the toxic effects of the treatment on their organs, others survive and are given to shelters or zoos to care for them.
