With no time constraints, summer vacation is the ideal time to discover your sleep needs that are rarely heard the rest of the year. In a video published on Instagram, Dr. Jimmy Mohamed recommends knowing when to go to sleep and when to wake up.
How many hours of sleep do you need to be truly rested? Summer vacation can be an opportunity to discover a sleep pattern that works for us. Doctor and TV columnist Jimmy Mohamed recommends this in a video published on his Instagram page on Sunday, July 21.
To do this, the doctor recommends taking advantage of the lack of time restrictions during vacation to set what we call a “sleep schedule.” At the start of the vacation, he says, we’ll be tired and sleep more because of our sleep debt. Once this phase is over, our body will send us signals that we need to trust to identify our sleep needs. “After a few days, you’ll naturally get tired at a certain time, sleep the number of hours you need, and get up spontaneously without waking up,” adds Jimmy Mohamed. This way we can determine the number of hours of sleep the body needs and the preferred times to go to sleep and wake up.

More morning or evening?
This sleep diary also lets those who don’t know about it know if they are more of a morning person or an evening person. The information is written in our genes, Joel Adrien, a neurobiologist and director of research at Inserm, explained to us in a previous article. “We have a clock in the brain that determines our personal time, and it has nothing to do with the time on the clock. Most people are in between, meaning neither an early bird nor a night owl.”
Once you’ve figured out your sleep ration and your schedule, Dr. Jimmy Mohamed recommends respecting them and acting accordingly throughout the year. Enough to stop your low speed activities outside of your vacation.
