The role of Germany depends on a number of factors, especially in the participation of the United States and the position of other allies.
Germany is ready to contribute to ensure security guarantees for Ukraine, however, the specific size and form of participation has not been determined. This was said by the German Boris Pistorius Minister of Defense in a commentary at FAZ on Tuesday, August 19.
He noted that the German contribution depends on many factors, including cooperation with the United States and the positions of other union partners.
“We consider, first, the course of negotiations, second, the possible contribution of the United States, and third, coordination with our closest partner … as well as Russia’s willingness to achieve a peaceful solution,” Pistorius emphasized.
Remember that Washington noted that the United States may consider the option of providing air support to Ukraine as part of the security guarantee. Representatives of this president’s presidency note that this is one of the possible situations.
US President Donald Trump has previously confirmed Washington’s intent to participate in security guarantees for Ukraine. At the same time, he emphasized that the main role in this regard should be among the states of Europe, while excluding the possibility of sending American troops directly to Ukraine.
