Traditionally, more individuals are registered as entrepreneurs in Kyiv, Dnepropetrovsk and Kyiv regions. At the same time, women opened more private businesses than men.
In the first half of 2024, Ukrainians opened more than 148 thousand individual entrepreneurs, which is 10.8% more than in the same period in 2023. YouControl.Market reported this on Tuesday, July 16.
Traditionally, more individuals are registered as entrepreneurs in Kyiv – about 20.5 thousand, Dnepropetrovsk region – about 14 thousand, and Kyiv region – more than 11 thousand.
More private entrepreneurs are registered in the retail trade sectors – more than 40 thousand, information technology – 19.6 thousand, and other services – 18.8 thousand.
The education sector became the leader in the growth of new sole proprietors: in 2024, Ukrainians opened 45.5% (5.3 thousand) more sole proprietors in this area than in 2023.
Interestingly, in June 2024, the increase in the registration of individual entrepreneurs compared to the same period in 2023 was -30%. In all regions of Ukraine, the increase in registrations was negative. The biggest decrease was observed in Kharkov: -13.6% in May and -38.9% in June, which is probably due to increased terrorist attacks by the Russian Federation.
Women opened more sole proprietorships than men: 59.8% of new sole proprietorships were owned by women, and 40.2% were registered by men.
Company openings increased 5.6% in the first half of 2024 compared to January-June 2023.
So, almost 13.2 thousand new companies were registered in Ukraine. The leaders in the number of newly registered companies are Kyiv – 4.7 thousand, Dnepropetrovsk – 1.1 thousand, Lviv – just over a thousand and Kiev – 894 companies.
Kherson region became the leader in the growth of new companies – 35.3%. In Poltava and Khmelnytsky regions – 27.3% and 26.6%, respectively.
Let’s recall that the growth of the gross domestic product (GDP) of Ukraine in June of this year compared to June 2023 was about 1.1%, which is lower than the figures of May and April – 3.7% and 4.3%, according to respectively.
Previously, the National Bank worsened its forecast for GDP growth to 3% in 2024, but slightly improved expectations for the inflation rate.
At the same time, the Cabinet of Ministers in the Budget Declaration for 2025-2027 predicts a slowdown in economic growth in 2025.
