Russian Interfax said that, in the opinion of the ruling regime of the Russian Federation, this “will help improve the country’s energy security.”
Rosstat has finished publishing statistics on fuel production. This was reported by the pro-government Russian news agency Interfax, citing a commentary from the Russian Ministry of Energy.
The decision was made to ensure information security of the petroleum products market, the department assured.
“Given the current geopolitical situation, the disclosure of such information could become a reason for market manipulation by unscrupulous participants,” Russian officials said.
According to their version, closing statistics on fuel production “will help strengthen the reliability of supply to domestic consumers and increase the country’s energy security as a whole.”
The Russian Ministry of Energy added that the publication of data on prices for petroleum products will continue.
The last month Rosstat released fuel production data was April. In the first four months of 2024, 14.4 million tons of motor fuel were produced in the Russian Federation, which is 1.7% less than in the same period last year.
A downward trend in fuel production has been observed for several months. In January, production reached 3.8 million tons, in February – 3.7 million tons, in March – 3.5 million tons, in April – 3.4 million tons.
