The irrigation problem will become the biggest agricultural problem in the south of Ukraine after the explosion of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. This was said by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solsky during the telethon.
He recalled that the Kakhovka canal supplied water to more than half a million hectares of land.

According to the minister, lands without irrigation systems will also suffer – farmers will now have nothing to cultivate. Because they received the main and stable income from crops from fields with irrigation systems.
“The consequences of stopping irrigation are much greater. Not half a million hectares, but a million and a half hectares will not be fully usable. It will take 3-5-7 years to resume irrigation,” said Solsky.
The Kakhovka reservoir is the source of two irrigation and water supply systems – the Kakhovskaya system and the North Crimean Canal. These systems are developed with the water level in mind to reduce the power consumption for the pumps.
Now the water level has dropped, so water does not enter the systems. To raise it, you need to restore the dam. Therefore, it has been a problem for many years, the minister added.
Recall that on the night of June 6, Russian troops blew up the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, which resulted in large-scale flooding in the territories of the Kherson region. The hydroelectric power plant was completely destroyed and cannot be restored.
