Brazilian President-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva confirmed this Friday that he 80% of his ministers are “in the head”. However, he assured that he would not be in a hurry to announce the names, since negotiations are still underway on the composition of the government with other parties.
The progressive leader also stated that, most likely, increase the number of ministries from the current 23 to about 30because his intention is to have a cabinet similar to the one he had at the end of his second term as President of Brazil (2007-2010).
“After I am awarded the diploma of the elected President of Brazil On December 12, I will begin to announce to the ministersbut it’s none of their business, because I have 80% of the ministry in my head,” he said at a press conference.
Lula explained that he continues to negotiate the composition of the cabinet with ten political parties that helped him defeat the current president, the far-right Jair Bolsonaro, in the October elections, as well as with other centrist and right-wing parties that do not support him.but they are important in Congress”.
He said he would speak next week with the leaders of the smaller parties in his coalition and with representatives from some sectors of society, such as the indigenous population, to continue forming a cabinet.
About the Ministry of Economy, which is being speculated on by the ex-presidential candidate Fernando Haddadone of his key collaborators, has given assurances that he intends to nominate someone “who has face” for his first term.
He recalled that in his first term, he managed to achieve the highest economic growth of Brazil in more than thirty years and bring the country to the sixth largest economy in the world.
However, he clarified that his economy minister would have autonomy, but that it is the head of state who will make political and economic decisions”because I was the one who won the election and I know what’s good for the people and what’s good for the market.”
Regarding the number of ministries, he stated that it will be based on the cabinet he had at the end of his second term with almost 30 portfolios, so he will recreate some of them that were extinct under Bolsonaro, such as industry and trade, fisheries . , Women and racial equality.
He also reiterated that he will create a special portfolio for indigenous peoples, but does not yet know if it will have the status of a ministry or a secretariat associated with the president.
“I’m still going to talk to the indigenous communities because you have to give them a token of respect and recognition that they are needed to help Brazil take care of its forests and climate,” he said. (As reported by EFE)
