The NATO Secretary General believes that Berlin’s accusations of insufficient assistance to Kyiv are unfounded.
Germany’s defense contribution to the Alliance is relatively high, and Berldine’s criticism of insufficient military aid to Ukraine is unfounded. This is what NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said in an interview with the German edition of the Süddeutsche Zeitung, published on Friday, December 2.
“(Germany – ed.) is among the countries that provide Ukraine with the most military aid. Sometimes it seems that Germany is doing nothing at all. Few countries in the Alliance are doing more than Germany,” said the NATO Secretary General.
He also expressed the hope that “all the allies, including Germany, will do more.”
“But we are not starting from scratch,” added Stoltenberg.
The Alliance Secretary General also defended German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who has been criticized for allegedly not modernizing the Bundeswehr fast enough.
“It takes time to get a fifth-generation fighter or a modern helicopter,” he said.
The Kiel Institute for the World Economy states that Germany is in the top five countries in terms of military aid provided to Ukraine.
As of early December, it had reached 1.2 billion euros, including 700 million euros in “clean” military aid.
For comparison: Poland transferred military aid to Ukraine for 1.8 billion euros, Great Britain – 3.8 billion, of which 2.3 billion – financial aid for military purposes, the United States – 27 billion euros, of which more than 15 billion – direct weapon
Remember, German media reported, citing a representative of the German government, that Germany is not negotiating with Ukraine on the supply or deployment of Patriot air defense systems.
As you know, Germany offered Warsaw the Patriot missile defense system. However, the Polish Ministry of Defense in response asked Germany to transfer these systems to Ukraine.
