Western analysts note that supporters of the Russian authorities have begun to criticize the Kremlin amid setbacks and mobilizations.
Defeats on the battlefield, in particular, at Liman and the inability to effectively conduct partial mobilization dramatically change the Russian information space. This was reported in a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Kremlin-sponsored media and Russian bloggers – a prominent community of Russian war correspondents, former proxies and nationalists – are unhappy with Liman’s loss and at the same time criticize the bureaucratic failures of partial mobilization in the Russian Federation.
Propagandists explain the recent defeats in the Kharkiv and Donetsk regions due to the inability of the command to properly supply and reinforce Russian troops in the north of Donbass and complain about the lack of transparency in the course of the war against Ukraine, said the ISW.
Guests on Kremlin television shows on October 1 even criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to annex four Ukrainian regions before defending their administrative borders or even their front lines. Moreover, the propagandists did not hide their disappointment at the partial mobilization. They also pay attention to problems such as alcoholism among the newly mobilized, specialists note.
ISW emphasized that the defeat at Liman caused more confusion and negativity in the Russian information space than the retreat from Kyiv, Snake Island or even Kharkov. Western analysts explain this to the fact that the Russians are afraid to be mobilized to solve problems on the battlefield.
Recall that the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, said that he “cannot explain” the resonance among the citizens of the Russian Federation, which caused the announcement of the mobilization.
In addition, British intelligence believed that the defeat near Liman was a political failure of the Russian Federation.
