The math and reading levels of elementary school students in the United States fell sharply during COVID-19 pandemicespecially among the most vulnerable schoolchildren, revealed the all-Russian test among 9-year-olds.
On a 500-point scale, overall reading fell from 220 to 215, the biggest drop since 1990, and math fell from 241 to 234, the biggest drop ever.
The National Assessment of Educational Progress was conducted National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) among 14,800 students.

Problems arise before the pandemic
According to NCES Commissioner Peggy G. Carr, the decline was already happening before virus outbreak among the lowest performing students.
