This was done on purpose, because the ship’s rudder failed. Traffic in the Bosphorus Strait is suspended.
The ship Lady Zehma carrying Ukrainian grain, bound for Ukraine, ran aground on Thursday, September 1. The incident blocked traffic along the Bosphorus. This was reported by Sky News, citing a statement from the Istanbul Governor’s Office.
The department said the ship was carrying about three thousand tons of Ukrainian corn. It was noted that this was a conscious decision by the crew, as the ship’s steering failed.
According to the Turkish Coast Guard General Directorate, the 173-meter vessel was anchored in Bebek Bay.
Rescue boats and tugboats for cargo ships went to the scene. Traffic in the Bosphorus Strait is suspended.
It is noteworthy that a few days before, the Lady Zehma vessel left the Ukrainian seaport of Chornomorsk. It was headed for the Italian city of Ravenna.
It was previously reported that the second month of the grain corridor began with the release of five vessels.
According to the UN, in the first month of the grain corridor, the movement of 139 ships was allowed – 77 arrived at Ukrainian ports and 63 left them. The total tonnage of grain and other foodstuffs exported from the three ports of Ukraine is 1,546,516 tons.
