Ukraine receives fewer weapons from the West than it requires for several reasons. In each case, assistance depends on the region, situation and country. Andriy Sibiga, Deputy Head of the Office of the President, spoke about this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine, published on Tuesday, August 23.
“In the beginning, for example, the emphasis was on weapons of former Soviet production, on ammunition for them. Let’s say, all warehouses were exhausted. A new phase began, when the Ramstein process was created, when we started to receive both a new quality of weapons and new types of them,” he said.
Sibiga noted that there are countries that are doing it very quickly, there are countries that, due to some political situations, are not able to provide it without delay.
“There are countries that, for example, do not have this or that type of weapon that we are asking for, then they help us buy from third countries. There are countries that have become hostages of their internal political process. This is all true,” said Sibiga.
At the same time, he admitted that there are European countries that are “afraid of Russia.”
“Of course, there are such countries on the European continent, so it is also a great art to find suitable arguments. Therefore, the president personally communicates at his own level, so that if necessary, the ice can be broken, so that it is delivered to us more quickly, to find the formula that allows us to make the right decisions for us,” added Sibiga.
According to him, this is a very complicated process that requires delicacy, and in general this place requires silence.
Sibiga said the success of some decisions can be seen in the situation at the front.
